|How ChexSystems Works|
|Banks and credit unions report incidents to ChexSystems to protect themselves and other banks in the future. They report you if your account is closed for a reason. Banks report accounts to ChexSystems for different reasons. Here are some examples:
Each incident stays on your record for FIVE full years from the date the incident was reported.
|Once an incident is reported to ChexSystems it can be hard to remedy. Many banks tell you their policy is not to open a checking account for you if you have one or more incidents reported. If the information is not correct read further down this page on how to challenge incorrect listings. If the amount is affordable, pay it off. I have heard some banks may take you back after they are paid off.|
|How can I access my ChexSystems report?
If you been denied by a bank in the past 60 days, you may receive a report at no charge. Otherwise, there is an $8 charge. When contacting ChexSystems by mail or fax, be sure to always include your name, address, and Social Security Number (SSN).
